So I have reached the age where my back will no longer cooperate with our recliners.
My spine being what it is, and my weight and state of in-shape (or not) being what it is, straight back chairs with adequate lumbar support are my preference these days.
Some of you know this and some of you don’t, but my spine is fused from (and the fusion includes) my hips all the way to my shoulder blades. Stupid scoliosis was going to kill me if I didn’t have surgery for it when I was 13.
So today, I had to decide between matching furniture and my back (and arguably, my sanity and Jared’s sanity).
Here is what was here before. I took the picture for the light, not the chair, but you get the idea:
Jared and I tossed around different ideas. I didn’t really like the idea of bringing one of the chairs from the formal living room into the family room because all the chairs in the formal living room go together. And I’d come to see the green recliners as not formal or fancy, though they were plenty formal and fancy when they came to us.
We considered getting rid of one of the recliners. We considered buying something new or new-to-us for me to sit in.
I decided all that was silly. A chair is a chair and even if it isn’t all matchy-matchy, we have. chair that we already know works great for me and a green recliner doesn’t look all that terrible in the formal room.
Yay for already owning what we need.
